Gremlins win Barstow tourney

SH-BarstowThe Sacred Heart Gremlins boys soccer team won the Barstow tournament for the second straight year Saturday.

The Gremlins beat Class 2 Maryville in the final match by a 5-0 margin to take the win. Brandon Cooper put the Grems on the scoreboard first, off a Sebastian Aguerro assist, Chris Mergen scored the Gremlins second goal off another assist from Aguerro.

Max Martin was the next player to score off a Brandon Cooper assist to give the Gremlins a 3-0 lead at the half.

The second half opened with a Brandon Cooper header off a Devon Grose corner kick to put the Gremlins up 4-0. The final Gremlin score came from Max Martin off a Brandon Cooper assist to end out the scoring at 5-0.

The Gremlins were able to complete over 600 passes in the contest, never allowing Maryville to establish any type of possession throughout the match.

A total of eight  teams competed in the Barstow tournament. SH scored 17 goals and only allowed three during the tourney.
