Fall is right around the corner and that means school is about to begin. For many area children, the beginning of the school year also means a return to the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri.
Just because the school day has ended doesn’t mean the learning stops, and our Site Managers have been busy putting together fun and educational programs designed to keep members’ minds active.
The Club’s before and after school programs are available to all school-age children, at all Sedalia elementary schools and Sedalia Middle School, as well as outlying sites including Cole Camp, Green Ridge, La Monte, Leeton and Smithton.
“After a fun-filled summer our staff are excited for back-to-school celebrations to start,” said Director of Operations Stoney Hays.
Each afternoon at the Club begins with healthy snack time and Power Hour – a special program designed for members to complete their homework and receive extra help if needed. Afterwards, members are led by Youth Development Professionals in a variety of activities ranging from playing outside to creating a masterpiece artwork to learning a new skill.
“We will continue to ensure that we’re providing homework help, tutors and other resources to help keep members on track,” Hays said. “In addition, programs such as Eco-STEM- that reinforce ecology, science, technology, engineering and math – will continue to be high priorities for us, as well as those hands-on experiences that help foster learning.”
Those interested in being a Club member must fill out a membership packet and pay a $10 annual membership fee. Cost is $5 per day or $20 for the week. Membership packets can be found online at www.bgckids.com. For more information call 826-8331.
