The Missouri State Fair will be upon Sedalia once again and with that comes world class entertainment. This year is no different and the Sedalia Weekly Observer had a chance to speak with one of those entertainers, Sara Evans.
Evans will be performing on Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Pepsi Grandstand. Joe Nichols will be opening up the show before Evans takes the stage. Tickets range from 20-35 dollars. Show time begins at 7:30 p.m.
Evans is currently touring in support of her 7th studio album, Slow Me Down, and she is heading back home to Missouri to play for all of her home state fans. Evans was born in Boonville, and was raised in New Franklin, before moving to Nashville in the early 1990s.
When asked if she was excited to be returning to perform at the 2014 Missouri State Fair, Evans replied, “I have played the state fair many times. My whole family, except for one sibling still lives in Missouri. I get to see everybody. Hopefully I can come a day earlier or stay a day later. I am looking forward to going to visit my mom and having a home-cooked meal,” Evans said.
She added, “I am super excited and I always get a little nervous to come back and play in Missouri. I always feel so loved. Thank you for your support over the years.”
For Evans, touring the country is a family affair. Her brother, Matt Evans, plays bass in her band and serves as the band leader. His wife also tours with the band, serving as Sara’s stylist. In the past, two of Evans’ sisters toured with her as well.
Evans was asked if she enjoys the traveling with her family at her side.
“It is awesome. Two of my sisters used to tour with me. My brother’s wife is my stylist and they had a baby 16 months ago. They are on the road with us. My kids are on the road with us as well. I wouldn’t be able to do this without all of them,” Evans said.
The Weekly Observer staff asked Evans how the current tour has been going for her and she replied, “It’s great. Things have been going really well. We have a great show. We are always on tour it seems like. The album is growing great.”
With Slow Me Down being her 7th album, Evans was asked if the process of writing new songs has gotten easier or hardier over the years.
“It is pretty much the same. The whole process starts with writing the songs. The process is always fun. It is one of my favorite parts of this career. I write and write and write a lot. There are a lot of songs that I don’t record. When you find a certain song, it can change the whole course of your album creatively,” Evans explained.
Over the course of her career, Evans has sold over six million albums and her newest album Slow Me Down debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Country Album chart, as well in the Top 10 on the Billboard Top 200. Her single Slow Me Down was named one of the Top 10 albums of 2013 by Billboard Magazine.
Evans just released her newest single Can’t Stop Loving You on Monday, July 21. Can’t Stop Loving You is a duet with Isaac Slade from The Fray.
“I am such a fan of his voice and a fan of The Fray,” Evans said of Slade.
