GreatFuturesSedalia Mayor Stephen J. Galliher recognized Great Futures Day with a proclamation during a visit Thursday morning to the Boys and Girls Club’s site at Heber Hunt Elementary School Sixth and Warren.

The club announced the launch of the Great Futures Campaign, which seeks to ensure every child has access to a safe place after school and during the summer, and to empower today’s youth to achieve great futures as successful, healthy and engaged citizens.

To celebrate the nearing end of Summer Program, Tween Club members, with help from Sedalia Middle School Site Manager Vicki Hart, hosted a carnival for younger members, complete with games, prizes and a special fortune teller, “Esmeralda.”

According to stats provided by the club, about 43 million kids nationwide lack access to summer learning programs, putting them at risk of being unsupervised, unguided and safe.
