S-C girls tennis coach Lensie Means shows campers how to angle their racket when making a return.

Senior Sarah Slaughter focuses on the ball as she attempts a backhand return during a drill. Slaughter, who is trying tennis for the first time, said the camp sessions have taught her proper form and how to serve.

Smith-Cotton boys tennis coach Heather Clancy lobs a ball over the net as players work on their backhand stroke form Wednesday during the S-C tennis camp at Liberty Park. Clancy, who coached the girls team last year, said more than 20 students have participated this week.

“Our numbers are growing,” Clancy said. “We’re hoping to get the popularity of tennis up again.” Photos courtesy Sedalia School District 200.
