americanflagRobert Eugene Cook, 88, died at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Columbia on Monday June 23, 2014.

He was born Sept. 21, 1925 in Moniteau County, five miles northeast of California, Mo., to William Bryan Cook and Rose Mae Cunningham who preceded in death before him.

Mr Cook was of Cherokee Indian; his great grandmother was a full blooded Indian. He also had Pensavaina Dutch and Scott Irish decent. He went to Hickman High School in Columbia and Francis Howe High School near St. Charles. In his senior year of high school, he graduated early and drafted into the United States Army where he served as a cook. Mr. Cook was married to Ruby Idora Angle on May 6, 1946 in Buchanon, Georgia. They had five children.

Preceded in death were a daughter, Teresa Ann Knapp and a son, Victor Eugene Cook.

Survivors include two daughters: Bonnie Elaine Weathers of Sedalia; Willy Jo Williams of Smithton; and a son Jerry Wayne Cook of Sedalia. Mr Cook had nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He married his second wife Sept. 20, 1979 to Willadean Maudlin of Oklahoma. She preceded him in death April 19, 2008. No children were born of that marriage. Mr. Cook was a retired professional chef for 32 years working in Cleveland, Ohio, Kansas City and Sedalia. He owned two restaurants of his own both located in Missouri. He was a member of American Legion Post 642 of 31 years, Sedalia Moose Lodge 149 since 1972 of 36 years and honorary member of Missouri Sheriffs Association. His hobbies were fishing, gardening and his children. He enjoyed traveling wherever the road took him. He also loved watching football, baseball and boxing. He was a master at playing dominoes, checkers and enjoyed casino games.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 27 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Chapman officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Williams, Ronnie Williams, Jr., Justin Meyer, Rodney Taylor, Kevin Cook and David Williams. Burial will be in California. There will be Full Military Rites at graveside.
