Roadrunners-logoState Fair Community College Lady Roadrunner Alecia Cooley has been selected to participate in the 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association All-Star Event July 24-27 at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Fla.

Cooley, from Evanston, Ill., was one of the top 40 sophomores selected to participate by a committee from the coaches’ association. Selection was based on stats and coaches’ comments.

“The participants have a banquet together shortly after they arrive,” said Lady Roadrunners head coach Kevin Bucher. “Then they begin position-specific workouts and drills. The players are rated and divided into four teams, and each team will play two games.”

Cooley was named Second-Team All-Region 16. She helped lead the Lady Roadrunners to a 21-9 record and the program’s fourth appearance at the NJCAA Women’s Basketball national championship. Cooley was the third leading scorer and leading rebounder, averaging 11.4 points and seven rebounds per contest. She also led the team in blocked shots per game with 2.2.

“It will be great to see Alecia play in the event,” said Bucher. “She’s been playing really well this spring and working out really hard; hopefully, she will continue that this summer and have a great workout at the All-Star event.”
