Arbor-1Sedalia Mayor Steve J. Galliher proclaimed April 25 Arbor Day in Sedalia on Friday afternoon at Liberty Park, where he and the city’s Tree Board members, Master Gardener Emeritus Billie Long, along with other city officials and Kim Graves, Tree Board chairman, planted a redbud tree supplied by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Following the proclamation and tree planting ceremony, observers were treated to a demonstration of the skill of tree climbing by David Slane from St. Louis of Tree Climbers International, based out of Atlanta, Ga., who brought his buddy and a whole lot of tree climbing gear to Liberty Park and set up in one of the largest trees in the park. A few brave souls accepted his offer to let them climb ropes into the tree, including Sedalia Community Development Director John Simmons and Sedalian Mallory Graves.

Sedalia has been designated a Tree City USA for five years. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia Weekly Observer.
