Sacred Heart beats Santa Fe 7-3 at Alma

sacredheartIn a matchup of state ranked teams, Sacred Heart (ranked 5th in class 2) and Santa Fe (ranked 4th in class 1), Sacred Heart beat Santa Fe 7-3 in 7 innings in Alma Monday night.

Mason Kelchner was the winning pitcher throwing a complete game and only surrendering 2 earned runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks. Kelchner also went 2-3 at the plate with two singles.

Clint Spangler provided a lot of the offense going 2-4 with a 3-run home run in the top of the 4th inning that made it a 6-1 game at that point. Chance Spangler went 2-4 as well with a double to deep right center field in the 3rd inning to make the score 3-1. Ben Smeltzer reached base all 4 times at the plate today going 2-2 with 2 singles, 2 walks, and 2 stolen bases.

Keeton Graf was the losing pitcher for Santa Fe. He threw 4 innings and gave up 6 earned runs on 6 hits with 8 strikeouts, 4 walks, and 2 hit batters. He’s an all-state caliber pitcher who regularly hits the upper 80s on the radar gun and touches 90 mph as well. He’s already signed to play college baseball in fact.

Sacred Heart’s next game will be at Cole Camp tomorrow, Tuesday April 22, at 5 p.m.
