SMS DARE students graduate

DARE-SMS-18A total of 150 Sedalia Middle School students graduated from the Sedalia Police Department’s DARE course during a 45-minute ceremony held Thursday afternoon at the school.

DARE Officers (or mentors) Rodney Collins, Bradley Beard and Michael Elwood conducted the ceremony, assisted by SMS Principal Sarah Pannier and Vice Principal Brendon Eisenmenger.

Special guest speaker was 17-year-old Jennifer Rubin from Chesterfield (a suburb of St. Louis).

She is a member of the DARE Youth Advisory Board and founder of “Rockin’ for Relief.”

Winners from each of the six classes in the DARE essay contest read their winning submissions aloud to those attending the ceremony, which included numerous parents and relatives.

Some of the DARE Essay winners included Gabriel Orr, Kali Butts, Maggie Williams, Alexis Love, Mikiah Lancaster, Melissa Fernando, Emily Faries.
