Grems shut out Mustangs, 9-0

SH-NW-8The Sacred Heart Grems shut out the Northwest Mustangs, 9-0, in seven innings at Centennial Park on Tuesday evening.

Sacred Heart improved to 8-0 on the season. Mason Kelchner was the winning pitcher throwing 5 innings and only allowing 5 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Kelchner was also 2-4 at the plate with 2 singles and 2 RBIs. Caleb Tanguay pitched 2 innings in relief allowing 1 hit with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Jackson Smith went 3-3 at the plate with 2 singles and a 2 RBI triple that broke the game open in the 4th inning. Ben Smeltzer also went 2-4 with an RBI double and RBI single. SH opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single that scored Smeltzer to make it 1-0. They scored again in the bottom of the 2nd when Micheal Hohne drove 1-1 fastball to fence to score Koling Brace. Hohne reached base every time he batted, going 1-1 with a 2B and 3 walks. Trey Green was the losing pitcher for Northwest.

The Gremlins play La Monte at home Thursday and Windsor at home next Tuesday.

The Mustangs are scheduled to play at New Franklin on Wednesday. The team returns home for a game with Lincoln April 10. They travel to Tuscumbia on Saturday for two games with Tuscumbia and Jamestown. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia Weekly Observer.
