On the morning of April 5, 2014, the Smith-Cotton JROTC Drill Team competed in Louisville, Kentucky at the third annual JROTC Army Drill Nationals. Drill Teams from across the nation (including Hawaii) gathered and competed and hoped to be named National Champions. Smith-Cotton Drill Team received the Army National Championship Runner-up trophy. The drill team took seven trophies overall. The unarmed team performed exceptionally well in all their events and took firs=st in unarmed regulation and second in unarmed inspection. The armed team received fourth place overall and first in armed regulation.
Senior Cadet Aurora Rafael said that after four years of being on the team she hopes to have left her mark on the cadets and to have taught them everything they know. The drill team looks forward to competing in Daytona Beach, Florida on May 4 – 5 and look forward to bringing another National Championship to our community. Smith-Cotton JROTC would like to thank the Sedalia 200 School District and the entire Sedalia community for their outstanding support of the JROTC program.
