Camp Sacajawea West Program Center, located just outside of Sedalia, has started a Woods Clean Up project and looking for volunteers. The area at Camp Sacajawea is used for hiking, camping, badge work, day camp, and is a vital part of Girl Scouting. The woods area is currently not safe for girls and adult volunteers due to the accumulation of brush, fallen tree limbs that are hanging, and unwanted thorny tree growth.
We are also needing to reestablish our hiking trails. The Properties Maintenance Committee is searching for groups or individuals to help with this project. Because of safety and insurance requirements, we are asking for interested individuals or groups to notify Kim Rapp at (660) 851-0464. With the variety of current Scouting events, we have a list of scheduled work dates that are available. This type of project would be perfect for community service hours.
Those volunteers will be able to take firewood that was available from their work day. Clean up consist of clearing the fallen brush, hauling brush away, using a chain saw, removing fallen trees, and using a wood chipper. All volunteers would need to bring their own equipment to use. Girl Scouts are not responsible for personal property.
Camp Sacajawea West Program Center is part of this community. Our dedication in cleaning our woods is just one phase in retaining our camp for the benefit for all Girl Scouts and all future public camp usage.
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who makes the world a better place.
