Petree, VelmaVelma Jean Petree, 79, of Sedalia, died Saturday evening, March 22, 2014, at Fair View Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Marshall, daughter of Cue and Abbie Findley Potter.

Mrs. Petree was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are two sons, John N. Petree Jr., of Lee’s Summit, and James E. Petree, of Columbia; a stepson, John Dean Petree, of Sedalia; three daughters, Abbie Turner, Sheryl Michael and Lisa Rivers, all of Sedalia; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest D. Potter, of Sedalia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Findley.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church, with the Rev. Marlin Brown officiating.

Pallbearers will be Carl Michael, Brian Michael, William Michael, Jerry McFatrich and Adam Templeton.

Burial will be in Providence Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions will go towards funeral expenses (please make checks payable to Heckart Funeral Home) and the remainder will benefit the Providence Baptist Cemetery Association.
