Maryville 379Smith-Cotton High School’s New Score Singers took first place in the XL Category and was awarded the Grand Champion Sweepstakes traveling trophy in Saturday’s show choir competition at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

Cabaret, S-C’s all-female show choir, took first place in the secondary category with its British pop-themed performance. Also participating at NWMSU was Broadway Velocity.

There were 26 choirs in the competition. New Score and Cabaret each competed with five other choirs in their respective divisions. The choirs are directed by Chris Kindle, with assistance from Katie Dake; Kindle and Dake both are NWMSU graduates. The routines were choreographed by S-C alumnus Chad Alexander.

“I am so proud of all of the choirs in how they acted, handled themselves and performed,” Kindle said. “Friday night, the kids had a blast at the hotel and had some amazing rehearsals. Saturday we continued on up to NWMSU to compete. All three choirs were totally amazing and made myself and Mrs. Dake very proud.”

“It is great to have this traveling trophy back at S-C,” Kindle said. “We have some amazing kids and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.”
