La Monte takes fourth at S-C math contest

LaM-mathLa Monte math team traveled to the Smith-Cotton math contest on Saturday, Jan. 25. They competed against Lincoln, Northwest, Sacred Heart, Smithton, St. Paul, and Uniontown, Kan. First place was Sacred Heart, second place was Smithton, third place was St. Paul and La Monte won fourth place.

As individuals they earned 14 medals and 12 ribbons to place fourth as a team. Each student took five tests. The following is how the students at La Monte placed:

Zach Warner earned a first place medal in Logic, a fourth place ribbon in Probability & Statistics, and ninth place in Calculus.

Antonia Arroyo earned a first place medal in Random Science and a third place medal on Sophomore Team.

Erin Warner earned three second place medals in Word Problems 10, Geometry 10, and Algebra 10. She earned a third place medal on Sophomore Team and a fifth place ribbon in Timed Mental Math.

Colton Wiley earned two third place medals in Geometry 9 and on Mixed Team. He earned eighth place in Algebra 9.

Vada DeMotte earned a third place medal on Mixed Team, sixth place in Word Problems 10, seventh place in Geometry 10, eighth place in Timed Mental Math, ninth place in Algebra 10.

Joey Perez earned a third place medal on Mixed Team and a fifth place ribbon in Probability & Statistics. He earned two sixth places in Word Problems 12 and Algebra 12, and tenth place in Timed Mental Math.

Jesse VanBooven earned a third place medal on Mixed Team and eighth place in Right Triangle Trig.

Katie Patrick earned a third place medal on Sophomore Team, a fifth place ribbon for Find-A-Place, and eighth place in Random Science.

Maria Lemus earned a third place medal on Sophomore Team.

Clayton DeMotte earned a fourth place ribbon in Word Problems 12, a fifth place ribbon on Senior Team, sixth place in Hodge Podge, and seventh place in Algebra 12.

Sandra Arroyo earned two fifth place ribbons in Geometry 10 and on Senior Team.

Alyson Patrick earned a fifth place ribbon on Senior Team and tenth place in Algebra 12.

Doug Fletcher earned two sixth places in Algebra 1 and on Freshman Team.

Lupe Lemus earned sixth place on Freshman Team.

Faviola Lemus earned seventh place in Probability & Statistics.
