SFCC-Iowa-9State Fair Community College sophomore guard Kevin Punter was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men’s Basketball Division I Player of the Week for Jan. 20-26. He is the first Roadrunner to receive this prestigious honor.

“It means a lot,” said Punter. “I work very hard on my craft every day. I want to thank my teammates for giving me the ball in the right situations.”

Punter helped lead his team to a pair of Region 16 victories during the week: a thrilling 116-114 triple overtime victory over the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzlies and a 75-72 road victory over the Mineral Area College Cardinals. He averaged 27.5 points, five rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, and also contributed 1.5 steals and one block per game.

“He’s had a great week,” said Roadrunners head coach Kevin Thomas. “He’s helped lead us to two big-time wins. He has improved in all aspects of his game since he arrived on campus. That’s our overall goal: motivating players to improve both academically and on the basketball court. He has done both of those things.”
