Mary Jo McMullin, 80, of LaMonte, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at her home.

Born July 8, 1933 in Spingfork, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Rose Mary Alt Welliver. On Nov. 26, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia, she married Jesse F. McMullin, who preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1993. Surviving are four children, James M. McMullin (Sharon), of LaMonte, Thomas H. McMullin (Sandra), of Sedalia, Rose M. McMullin, of LaMonte and Jane E. McMullin, of Sedalia; one brother, William Donald Welliver, of Riverside, Mo.; one sister, Betty Rouchka, of Carmel, NY; five grandchildren, Matthew J. McMullin (Angela), Benton M. McMullin, Clint. T. McMullin (Jenny), Laura K. McMullin and Cole P. McMullin; and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, Robert and Joseph Welliver; and two sisters, Marguerite Welliver and Anna Mae Dick.

Mrs. McMullin was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary and High School. In 1954 she received a diploma in Nursing from St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She also attended Donnelly College in Kansas City, Kan., and State Fair Community College in Sedalia. She received stoma nurse training at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis in 1976, and in 1990 received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Webster University in St. Louis. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Bothwell Regional Health Center from 1955 until her retirement in 1996, and served as Nursing Administrator from 1984 until her retirement.

Her career as a Registered Nurse in Missouri spanned 50 years. She taught stoma care to patients, families and nursing personnel at Bothwell Regional Health Center from 1976 to 2012. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, the Missouri Nurse’s Association, past president and board member of the 10th District Nurse’s Association, and past board member of the Missouri Organization of Nurse Executives. She was active in 4-H in Pettis County for 40 years. She served as Community Leader for the R-1 Hustlers 4-H Club for 20 years, and was involved in the University of Missouri Extension Center as a member and past president of the Pettis County Extension Council. She was also a member and past president of the Agriculture Committee in Pettis County, and a member of the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Mark Miller officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mike Simon, Steve Davis, Troy Schroeder, Andrew Schroeder, Kevin Wulff and Pat Behen.

Honorary pallbearers will be David and Marcia Turner, Joe Behen, Mike Matchael, Lois Harvey, Virginia McAllister, Elroy Schroeder, Dannie Wulff and Gary Wulff. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A prayer service will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with visitation to follow until 6 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested to Sacred Heart Foundation, or the Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
