The Missouri Valley Community Action Agency was welcomed to the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday at 505 South Kentucky. MVCAA is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
The Sedalia office is one of eight MVCAA offices in a seven-county region (Pettis, Saline, Johnson, Lafayette, Chariton, Ray and Carroll counties). MVCAA serves as an advocate for over 20,000 individuals who live in poverty in the region.
“We move people out of poverty, that’s our main goal,” commented Melissa Casteel, community outreach specialist.
Services offered pertain to: info, assessment and referral services, back-to-school, children (Head Start & EHS childcare), consumer education, crisis intervention, energy assistance, family literacy (GED), family support, home weatherization, “new directions” (financial, educational and employment mentoring), employment (job preparation), rental assistance and tax preparation for low-income families and seniors.
