Katie Patrick led with 15 points, five assists and two rebounds.
Madison Harris and Cathy Butts each had seven points. Harris had one rebound and Butts had six rebounds.
“The girls aren’t accustomed to playing man-to-man defense and Smithton scored a few times right off the bat. I could tell we were slipping back into that mentality of, ‘this doesn’t work, so let’s quick working,’ so I had them go back into a zone. Until we learn and decide that we have to work hard from start to finish, regardless if we’re playing man or zone … we’re going to struggle with teams in the Kaysinger.
“We were down by one in the fourth quarter with just under two or three minutes and wouldn’t step out and contest shots. This should be a good example of why it’s important for us to play Man without fear of repercussions. We’ll get there … it may not be tomorrow or the next day … but we’ll get there,” commented head Lady Vikings coach Manuel Lujan.
