For the past 27 years, Doak has been in private practice at Sedalia Internal Medicine. As an internal medicine specialist, he focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases.
“Leaving private practice was not an easy decision to make, but after weighing the changing landscape of medical practice and reimbursements, I feel this is the best way for me to remain in the practice of medicine for our community and patients,” Doak said. “As a physician, I appreciate the trust patients have placed in me over the years, and I look forward to the opportunity to continue that as a physician now employed by Bothwell.”
Nationally, more physicians are becoming employed by hospitals as the implementation of federal health-care reform continues. Merritt Hawkins, a leading physician recruitment firm, predicted that three of the four new physician hires in the next two years will be hospital-based. The number of physicians employed by hospitals has increased by an estimated 35 percent since 2000, according to American Hospital Association data.
Doak joins Dr. Ernesto Negron and Dr. Anmol Dhillon at Bothwell Internal Medicine and will be accompanied by his nurse Paula Kappelman.
