VFW Auxiliary donationThe Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591 in Sedalia donated 197 handmade Christmas stockings made by Margaret Sisk to the veterans at the Missouri Veterans Home-Warrensburg. A total of $800 was collected from members of the Ladies Auxiliary, Men’s Auxiliary, VFW and an individual who donated $100. Half of the money was used to purchase stocking stuffers. Each stocking was filled with an apple, orange and banana, along with wish list items like toothpaste, toothbrush, hand sanitizer, note paper and puzzle books. David Sisk, a member of VFW Post 2591, came to the home on Dec. 20 as Santa Claus and visited with veterans at four holiday parties.

The remaining $400 will be used to purchase ice cream mix and stamps for the canteen. These items are free to the veterans at the home. Volunteers are always needed to work in the canteen which is open from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call Latisha Koetting, director of volunteer services, at (660) 429-4661.
