Joyce Elizabeth Sommers, 66, Lincoln, died on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at her home.
She was born on May 14, 1947 in Kansas City, Mo., daughter of Raymond and Lillie Seighcrest Terry.
On Sept. 16, 1972 in Sedalia she was married to Arnold Lewis Sommers Sr. and he preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 2004. She was president of the Benton County Farm Bureau. She was a volunteer with the Benton County 4-H as a quilting instructor. She enjoyed riding horses and performed in the American Royal Parade. She also liked to travel, be outdoors, and enjoyed canning, gardening, sewing and quilting. She loved the time she could spend with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters: Joy Beesley and Tammy Allison (Michael) both of Lincoln, two sons: Arnold L. Sommers, Jr. of Sedalia and Terry Terry of Kansas City, Missouri, one brother Rex Terry (Pam) of Pittsburg, Kan., six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded by one grandson: Matthew Beesley. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Siebert officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Allison, Kaleb Allison, Jake Montemayor, Kyle Montemayor, Cpl. Charles Beesley and Bill Mahnken.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John Montemayor and Walt Schrader. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
