The Sedalia Public Library is reopening on Monday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. An open house is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. for the public to see what has been done to restore the 112-year-old Carnegie Building at 311 W. Third.
The issues concerning the library began in the summer of 2012 when an extreme drought caused the foundation of the building to crack and become unstable. A total of $1.5 million was budgeted for the restoration project. In the meantime, the library relocated to 515 South Ohio.
The project, which began on July 24, 2012, was originally expected to be completed by the middle of June, but due to several small setbacks, that end date was pushed back to late August, then December. For more information, call Pam Hunter at 826-1314. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
