Following the great example of the city of Sedalia, the Pettis County Commission is announcing the first privately funded 2013 Pettis County Christmas Lighting Contest, announced Pettis County Presiding Commissioner John Meehan on Friday, Nov. 22.
Xi Beta Upsilon, chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, with the assistance of the Pettis County Commission, is pleased to announce the first annual Outdoor Residential Christmas Contest for 2013. This event is privately funded, Meehan stressed.
Prizes will be awarded on behalf of first, second and third place winner with all prizes money ($100 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third) donated to the charity of their choice.
Deadline for entering is 12 noon on Monday, Dec. 9, with judging to take place Thursday, Dec. 12 starting at 6 p.m.
Judging criteria will involve lighting, theme, eye appeal, originality and overall appeal, with 10 points possible in each category.
The complete display is to remain in place throughout the Christmas holiday season for the enjoyment of friends and neighbors. The contest will include all residential entries in Pettis County with the exception of Sedalia residents, who are encouraged to participate in Sedalia’s Christmas Lighting Contest, it should be noted.
