The Farm Service Agency offers a variety of farm loan programs. One loan that is available to assist family farmer’s credit needs is the Direct Operating loan. Eligible uses of the operating loan include:
-purchase of equipment
-purchase of livestock
-annual operating expenses
-minor structural improvements
-land or water development
Applicants must first meet eligibility requirements. Some of the requirements include acceptable credit history, cannot obtain credit elsewhere, possess adequate managerial ability and must be the owner operator along with other additional requirements. If all eligibility requirements are met, a cash flow will be developed to determine whether all debt payments can be made. Approval is dependent upon applicant being both eligible and have a feasible plan.
