Springfield Catholic edges Grems 3-2 in double OT

The Springfield Catholic ‘Fightin’ Irish’ (23-5) squeezed in a goal with 13:49 remaining in the second overtime to edge the Sacred Heart Gremlins, 3-2, to advance in state quarterfinal action Saturday afternoon at Clover Dell Park.

Jimmy Villalobos and Brandon Cooper scored Sacred Heart’s two goals. Both teams battled a relentlessly strong southern wind throughout the contest. Sacred Heart ends their season (22-4).

Springfield Catholic went on to compete for Class 1 state championship and lost 2-0 to John Burroughs High School on Nov. 23. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
