Students from La Monte High School attended the 2013 Missouri Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Fall Leadership Conference, Oct. 27-28, at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Osage Beach. More than 1,000 FCCLA members, advisors, and chaperones attended the conference. The following La Monte FCCLA members attended the conference: Brittany Green, Region 12 Officer; Sara Grotzinger, and Devin Weir. Local chapter advisor Mrs. Doris Jolly also attended.

FCCLA students chose one of three conference tracks to attend at the Fall Leadership Conference. The Take AIM (Active and Involved Members) training introduced new members to FCCLA’s leadership development opportunities and programs. The Leadership Unlimited training was designed to help FCCLA officers strengthen their skills in chapter management, public speaking and conflict resolution.

The Chapters in Action training provided teams of chapter members with ways to plan and implement three national FCCLA programs at the local level: Community Service, FACTS–Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety and STOP the Violence. Speakers focused on peer education efforts and resources available to chapters for local projects.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. It is the only Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in FCCLA programs and activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities. For more information, visit the FCCLA website at www.mofccla.org.
