Eight S-C band members honored

Eight Smith-Cotton High School students were honored Saturday at the West Central Music Educators Association All District Band auditions, held at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

According to S-C Director of Instrumental Music Grant Maledy, students auditioned for membership in the All-District Honor Band, the All-District Honorable Mention Band and/or the All-District Jazz Band. Smith-Cotton students placed as follows:

Courtney Cooper: First chair, euphonium, Honorable Mention Band; and first alternate, All District Band.

Derrick Weller: Fifth chair, trumpet, Honorable Mention Band.

Ashley Grotzinger: First alternate, tenor saxophone, Honorable Mention Band.

Grant Waters: First chair, tenor saxophone, All-District Jazz Band; second alternate, tenor saxophone, Honorable Mention Band.

Logan Fluty: Piano, All-District Jazz Band.

Maggie Holman: Second chair, tenor trombone, and first chair, bass trombone, All-District Jazz Band.

Caleb Henderson: Third chair, trombone, All-District Jazz Band.

AJ Paul: Alternate, drum set, All-District Jazz Band.

The all-district bands will perform Jan. 3 and 4 at UCM. The jazz band will perform Jan. 11 at Smith-Cotton High School. Waters, Cooper, Fluty, Holman, Paul and Henderson will audition for All-State Band and All-State Jazz Band on Dec. 7 at Hickman High School in Columbia.
