Sedalia American Legion Post 16 recently made a generous donation to the State Fair Community College Foundation to establish an endowed nursing scholarship.  The amount of the check was not disclosed.

The post is disbanding in December and disbursing its funds to several area organizations, including the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. Commander George Fairfax said the post has supported the college’s nursing program with endowed scholarships for more than 10 years and wanted to continue that support. Post 16, the oldest in Pettis County and one of the oldest in the United States, was formed in 1917; four of its original members attended the very first American Legion meeting in St. Louis that year.

Presenting a check to Interim Associate Dean of Nursing Rhonda Hutton Gann, second from left, are, from left, members Jim Keck, George Fairfax, Billy Neff, Emmett Fairfax, Bobby Salmon and Bill Hanna.
