Smith Cotton Volleyball faced some tough competition Saturday at the S-C Volleyball Invitational, which featured eight teams. The Tigers were off to a rocky start in pool play losing to Fatima, 28-26 & 25-14.
They then began to improve their play by splitting with Santa Fe, 25-23, 25-8 in pool play.
They finished pool play winning two against Marshall 25-23, 25-15. The Tigers fought hard against Grain Valley in semi finals, winning the first game 25-23, but losing the next two, 17-25, 22-25, earning a tie for third place.
During the game Abby Knight earned 17 kills and 2 aces. Bailey Curry earned 9 kills and 18 digs. Hannah Woolery earned 20 assists. Courtney Koetting earned 17 assists and 6 kills and one ace. Brittany Borke led the team with 19 digs.
Fatima won the tournament by beating Grain Valley, 25-19, 25-19.
Santa Fe won the consolation bracket earning 5th place, beating Marshall 25-23, 25-14.
MVP for the tournament was Abby Knight from Smith-Cotton.
