The ninth annual Veterans Appreciation Barbecue, sponsored by the Central Missouri Veterans Association, was held Saturday, Sept. 7 on the Pettis County Courthouse lawn.

Vets were served hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwursts, chips, dessert and soft drinks. Proceeds from the event went to the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.

Guest speaker was Brig. Gen. Thomas Bussiere, Whiteman Air Force base commander.

Two live local bands — Smokestack Soul and the Good Times Oldies Band — performed for the veterans in nearly 100-degree heat.

The CMVA presented Emmett Fairfax with a plaque for his many faithful years of service to the organization. He and his wife Alice accepted from CMVA Chairman Jim Gaertner and Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
