Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn signed a proclamation Wednesday, Sept. 4 in observance of Literacy Month. It was noted that a standard level of proficiency is required for success in today’s labor market and only half of the U.S. population 16-65 years of age reach that standard.
Literacy skills are strengthened in large measure by simple solutions of mentoring, volunteering and donating to organizations focused on raising the rate of literacy in our country; and the McKinley Federated Republican Women work within the community to raise awareness of the importance of literacy.
