Hellen C. Ogweno, 36, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
She was born July 23, 1977 in Webuye, Kenya, the daughter of Albert Ngelywa and the late Rhoda Akumu Ngelywa. On May 4, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia, she married Linus Ogweno, who survives of the home.
Her spirit is defined by her capacity for self-sacrifice and service to others before herself. She was patient and disciplined, yet incredibly persistent in everything she did. Her example was one of tireless effort to accomplish all she set her mind on. Beyond all else, she had the unique ability to befriend and unite people from different cultures and all walks of life. For her family, both in the States and in Kenya, she was the glue that kept everyone together despite the distance and borders that kept them apart. For all of this, and so much more, she will be sorely missed.
Also surviving are six children, Brian, Brandon, Brianna and Byron, all of Sedalia, and Rhoda and Rodney, of Kenya; six brothers, Patrick, Andrew, Sioy, Peter, John Paul and Isaiah, and one sister Florence, all of Kenya. She was also preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating. The rosary will begin at 6 p.m. Monday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with visitation to follow until 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
