‘The Bus’ celebrates new 30-minute routes

“The Bus” is Sedalia’s fixed route bus system, operated by OATS, Inc. The system is celebrating its 14th year in service to Sedalia with the launching this month of its new two bus transfer system. There are now two routes which both start and stop at the State Fair Shopping Center near K-Mart, their transfer stop every 30 minutes.

In celebration of its new route system, you can “Ride The Bus for Free” all day Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, opening day of the Missouri State Fair.

Route A Bus, which covers the area from 16th Street to Broadway and west all the way to Sunset Village near Menards, stops at Walgreen’s, Dollar General, Save-A-Lot, Sunset Village Mobile Home Park, Aldi, Katy Trail Community Health, Walmart, Thompson Hills Shopping Center (J.C. Penney & Sears), 10th Street at Olsen, Family Medicine, Social Security, Bothwell Healing Arts Center, SFCC and back to State Fair Shopping Center (between Fig Leaf and K-Mart). It covers this route every 30 minutes starting on the hour and each half hour at the transfer point at State Fair Shopping Center.

Route B Bus, covers the southeast portion of Sedalia from the State Fair Shopping Center south to the Missouri State Fair Grounds/Conservation Department, the new Casey’s and Best Western State Fair Inn, Smith-Cotton High School, Elm Hills Mobile Home Park and back to the SE corner of Erika Ave and Clinton Road (TLC Pediatrics), Katy Park, SE corner of 16th Street & Grand (Casey’s), then east to Centennial Park, Senior Housing and back to State Fair Shopping Center for transfers to the Route A bus.

Route B Bus on the second half of the hour leaves State Fair Shopping Center (30 min. past the hour) heads east on 16th to Bothwell Regional Medical Center, Woods Supermarket, Salvation Army (Broadway & Engineer), then north to Buckner Apartments, Amtrak Depot, Downtown Sedalia (multiple stops), NE corner of Moniteau at Broadway (Break Time Store), Liberty Apartments and back to State Fair Shopping Center on the hour. The route will include Sunrise and Boonville Mobile Parks at 45 minutes past each even hour.

Copies of the new route are available from the drivers. The Bus operates from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Closed Sunday. Rides are 1.50 per person, but kids 12 and under ride for 50 cents. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Discounted rides are available by purchasing “Prepaid Punch Cards” from the drivers.
