Participants will learn about caves and cave exploring, from ethical behavior and what to wear to what rocks and animals they might encounter.
Class will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. July 15 and 22 in Yeater Learning Center Room 149 on the Sedalia campus and will include a field trip to Jacob’s Cave, a commercial cave south of Versailles, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a Saturday to be determined. Cavers are encouraged to bring helmets, kneepads and two sources of light on the field trip.
Cost is $99; instructor is Blake Stephens, with the Missouri Conservation Department.
“Missouri has more than 6,500 caves,” said Stephens. “We’ll shed some light on the underground mysteries of Missouri’s darkest habitat and enjoy the adventure of crawling through Jacob’s Cave.”
