A 14-year-old girl was flown to University Hospital in Columbia by Air Evac after the ATV she was driving struck a tree on private property at 4:55 p.m. on Thursday, June 20.

Chelsea D. Moore, 14, was driving a 1985 Yamaha Moto-4 200 ATV on a private road at 30650 Ball Road south of Sedalia, when she intentionally ran off the right side of the road to drive through a mud puddle. Moore lost control and struck a tree on the right side of the road.

Riding with her was 13-year-old Cheyanne N. Monteer, who suffered minor injuries. She was transported via private vehicle to Bothwell Regional Health Center. Neither rider was wearing a helmet, the Missouri Highway Patrol said in its report. The Pettis County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Patrol in the investigation.
