The Sedalia Travelers fell to Hi Boy of Independence 12-8 in the first game of a double header Saturday at Dey Field. The second game was suspended in the 8th inning due to rain.
The Travelers Ian Dotson went 8 for 9, putting up four doubles and a single in the first game and three singles in the second. As the starting pitcher for the first game, Dotson allowed ten runs in 4 2/3 innings, and came up with six strikeouts and two walks.
Defensive struggles were in issue for Sedalia in the third inning of the first game, with Independence starting the inning with a triple. He was brought home on a single, and Hi Boy went on to score two more times in that inning.
The travelers mounted a comeback in the next few innings, scoring three home runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
The second game saw the Travelers facing a 2-1 deficit for most of the game, but runs in the sixth and seventh gave them a 3-2 lead at the start of the seventh. Hi Boy tied it up 3-3 when Sedalia catcher Zach Bishop overthrew the second baseman, allowing the runner from third to score.
The second game will resume at a 3-3 score with Hi Boy having runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the eight on June 30th in Independence.
The Travelers next home game will be against the Lee’s Summit Pirates on June 19 at 6 p.m. The three-day Sedalia Warrensburg Tournament begins Fridayat 6. Sedalia plays at 8:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at 10:30 and 3:30 p.m., with the finals on Sunday. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
