The annual Pettis County Relay For Life was held Saturday night at Jennie Jaynes Stadium. The goal of the six-hour event was to raise $65,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Guest speakers for the emotional opening ceremony before the traditional Survivors and Caregivers Walk were Mike Stratton and Teherah Benscoter. The Caregiver of the Year Award went to Evelyn Yonce.

The theme this year was “Don’t Play Games With Cancer” with about 33 teams participating in the  Relay, according to event chair Sherry Jo Painter-Torres.

“Campsites” lined the perimeter of the soggy track, which was drenched the day before with torrential rains. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
