- Smith-Cotton High School senior class counselor Carmen Brock prepares to send seniors, from left, David Desmond, Jacob Lamb and Luke Rosendale across the stage to get their diplomas.

The Smith-Cotton track team was involved in a race even after Saturday’s Class 4, Sectional 3 meet at Ozark.

After qualifying for next weekend’s state meet, seniors David Desmond, Jacob Lamb and Luke Rosendale flew from Springfield to Sedalia, landing just in time to participate in the Class of 2013’s commencement ceremony. Lamb and Rosendale were still wearing their black-and-gold uniform socks, which could be seen under their graduation gowns. With the help of S-C track coach Brad Hagedorn, Assistant Principal Gavin Miller was keeping tabs on the trio’s progress right up to their arrival at the Mathewson Exhibition Center. The flight was made possible through donations from Guier Gas and W-K Chevrolet.

Lamb led the way for the Tigers at the sectional meet. He was third in the 800-meter run and was a member of both qualifying relay teams, joining Brady Ritzert, Kylen Williams and Rosendale to finish third in the 4×800, and running with Desmond, Luke Guier and Rosendale on the 4×400 team, which also finished third. The state meet is set for Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Photos courtesy of Sedalia School District 200.
