Ex-Sedalian nominated as nurse of year

Norma Gravitt-Poindexter, daughter of Rosa Gravitt and the late Samuel Gravitt Sr., Sedalia, recently was nominated nurse of the year at Grady Health Systems, Atlanta Ga.

The award is based on her national model as a nurse, excellent intepersonal skills, effective teamwork, compassion and integrity, it was reported. The award was made during National Nurse’s Week.

She was chosesn from among 45 other nominees and the award brought with it, among other things, two round-trip airfare tickets to anywhere in the US, with limousine service; a gift card to several restaurants, a day at a spa, $500 in cash, her personalized lab coat and her own special parking space for a year.

Gravitt-Poindexter is currently working in the ICU at Grady and is a part-time clinical instructor at the University of West Georgia. She has been accepted to the doctorate in nursing practice program at Chatham University. She graduated from State Fair Community College, Sedalia, in 1987 with an associate degree in ursing.

She is married to Kevin Poindexter, owner of P&P Construction Co., Marietta, Ga.
