Alyssa Weikal, right, outgoing class president, administers the “Pledging of the Senior Class President” to Alexia Goodson, who will hold that position for the Class of 2014.

The Smith-Cotton High School Candlelight service for the Class of 2013 was held Thursday, May 16, in the Heckart Performing Arts Center. Candlelight, which started with the Class of 1942, represents the transferring of school leadership and loyalty from the graduating class to the incoming senior class. The event concluded, as is tradition, with the singing of “Maybe Someday (We’ll Meet Again).” Photos courtesy Sedalia School District 200.

The Smith-Cotton High School Class of 2013 leads the crowd in the singing of “Hail Alma Mater” at the start of the Candlelight service, held Thursday morning in the Heckart Performing Arts Center.
