Creative seniors awarded

On Monday, May 13 at 11 a.m., the director of the Senior Center Creative Writing Class, Fayrene Mayer, presented awards for 14 categories of creative writing with a first, second, and third place for each category. It was one of the biggest contests yet, with 48 submissions. Fayrene has been leading a Creative Writing Class at the Center since October, 2008. The group meets on Mondays at the Center from 1 to 3 p.m.

The categies were: 14. Tanka 13. Senyru 12. Clarihew 11. Limerick 10. Unrhymed Poem 9. Rhymed Poem 8. Two or More stories with related theme by same author 7. Children’s Story – Theme “The Bears Decided to Stay Awake All Winter” 6. Story using NO words containing letter “e” 5. Story with first line “Where were you last night?” 4. Choice of Genre 3. Story using any three of words: (train-black satin sheets-ice-window-apple) 2. Memoir – a childhood holiday or seasonal 1. Essay “Happiness is Contagious”

Awards were presented by Bob Milner, a member of the Exectutive Board of Directors for Care Connection in Pettis County.
