The third annual Super Mom Walk/Run 2K & 5K was held Saturday morning May 11 at the Missouri State Fairgrounds under sunny skies, with a constant, westerly breeze and 55 degrees.

A total of 237 people pre-registered, in addition to 28 families who showed up at the last minute for the event, which was held to celebrate all mothers and encourage families to make new traditions that incorporate family physical activity. A total of $650 was raised for the WIC program, a spokeswoman said.

The Super Mom Walk/Run, sponsored by WIC, gives families the chance to enjoy spending quality family time while learning ways to integrate physical activity with loved ones and how to overall live a healthier lifestyle. Girl Scouts from Smithton were on the course cheering on the participants.

A list of sponsors included Waterloo, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, Third National Bank, Bodyworks Day Spa, W-K Chevrolet, Panera Bread and The Wheel Thing.

The first annual event drew over 215 participants, so the numbers are increasing every year. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
