To honor and remember the sacrifices of World War II veterans, VFW Post 2591 will conduct a brief ceremony at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, which is VE Day (Victory in Europe).

The ceremony, which will take place in the VFW annex, will be followed by refreshments.

World War II vets who are able to attend are encouraged to do so. The public is also invited to attend. A donation for the veterans’ home in Warrensburg is requested. Donations will be made to the veterans’ home in the name of Post 2591 and the World War II veterans who attend the ceremomy, according to VFW spokesman Gary Gill.

May is National Military Appreciation Month, with the following dates of major importance:

May 1 is Loyalty Day (Silver Star Service Banner Day)

May 3 is National Day of Prayer for the Military

May 11 is Military Spouse Appreciation Day

May 27 is Memorial Day.

Upcoming events at Post 2591, 121 South Ohio, include Service Officer Day from 9 a.m. to noon on May 18.

Veterans will need to bring their DO214, it was noted.
