Bluebirds split pair in Cole Camp Classic

The Cole Camp Bluebirds split a pair of games Saturday in the Cole Camp Classic.

Cole Camp beat the Adrian Blackhawks 10-5 and lost 9-8 to the Crest Ridge Cougars.

In the win over Adrian, the game was tied 2-2 after one inning, but the Bluebirds scored four runs in the third, three more in the fourth and one in the fifth to open up a 10-2 lead after five innings.

The Blackhawks scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Adrian committed nine errors in the game and Cole Camp three. Both teams had nine hits.

Brendan Rusk went 1-for-3 to lead Cole Camp, scored three times and drove in a run. Tanner Oelrichs went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in one. Austin Weinberg went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Josh Blankenship went 2-for-4 with six RBI and scored a run.

Weinberg went the distance on the mound for Cole Camp. He allowed five runs (four earned), nine hits, struck out 13 and walked one to pick up the win.

Cole Camp scored four runs in the first against Crest Ridge and held that lead until the bottom of the third when the Cougars scored five times to take a 5-4 lead.

Cole Camp scored four runs in the fifth to retake an 8-5 lead Crest Ridge scored twice in the bottom of the fifth. The Cougars scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh.

No Bluebird players had more than one hit. Gunner Williams had a hit, scored a run and drove in two. Weinberg and Koby Knievel each had a hit and two RBIs. Blankenship and Tuttle each had a hit for the Bluebirds as did Connor Balke and Rusk.

Brad Martin pitched four innings and gave up one hit and seven runs (two earned) Oelrichs pitched two innings of relief, gave up two runs, four hits and struck out three.
