In a closed session on Monday, April 8, 2013, the Board of Education of the Sedalia School District #200 re-hired LTC Harry Cunningham and CSM Randy Woods to be directors of the JROTC program for the district.

Cunningham and Woods had resigned their positions, effective at the end of the 2012-13 school year, in order to launch a JROTC program in the Moberly, Mo., school district. However, the U.S. Army recently informed the Moberly district that its JROTC program funding is in jeopardy due to federal sequestration.

Cunningham and Woods contacted Smith-Cotton High School Principal Steve Triplett on Saturday to explain the circumstances and inquire about the possibility of returning to the Sedalia 200 district for the 2013-14 school year.

The school board, pleased with the exemplary performance Cunningham and Woods have put forth with the program, agreed that bringing them back was in the district’s best interests.
