Fire Department to begin hydrant flushing program

April 6, 2013

in Local

The City of Sedalia has announced the beginning of a fire hydrant flushing program.

Members of the Sedalia Fire Dept. will begin a program of flushing hydrants starting this month.

The Fire Dept will make information available daily of where crews will be flushing. Information will be accessible by calling the Fire Dept. Headquarters at 826-8044.

Flushing will usually be conducted between the hours of 8:30 am and 3:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. Some areas of town will require flushing to be conducted in the evening hours and on Sundays.

People should be aware that when flushing is taking place in their neighborhood, the possibility of discolored water is present. It is recommended that if any discoloration is detected, residents should flush their lines by flowing cold water through the bath tub and let water run for a sufficient amount of time until water is clear. It is common to experience some discoloration in the water when flushing of mains. Residents are encouraged to delay doing laundry until the discoloration has cleared.

Your water will be safe to drink and cook with.

Anyone with concern about the safety of drinking water can request a test of the water by calling the Water Treatment plant at 826-1236.

This program is important to the safety of our citizens.

The City apologizes for any inconvenience to our citizens that may be caused as a result of this program. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact the Fire Dept. at 826-8044.
