Sacred Heart tennis team tops Clinton in home opener

On a chilly, windy afternoon Monday at the Liberty Park tennis courts, the Sacred Heart tennis team edged Clinton 5-4 in their home opener.

The Gremlins, 1-1 on the season, won the first three singles matches to take a 3-0 lead.

At #1 singles, Ky Oh beat Skylar Mart 8-6. At No.2 singles, Jay Kim beat Clinton Meineke 8-6, and at #3, Chris Stratton downed Louis Severini 8-5 as Sacred Heart took a 3-0 lead.

However, Sacred Heart’s Erin Keethler, Grace Callis and Jesse Carroll lost the next three singles matches to tie the match 3-3 going into doubles.

Oh and Kim downed Mart and Meineke in the #1 doubles match 8-6 and Stratton and Carroll won 8-6 in the #2 doubles match to give Sacred Heart a 5-3 lead and the dual match win.

Keethler and Callis lost the #3 doubles match.

Sacred Heart won the junior varsity match 5-3. Shyan Shaffeiy, Jimmie Villalobos, Aaron Romero, Joe Lee and Chandon Reese all won in singles for the Gremlin JV.
