Victoria Stratton and Sam Ditzfeld were chosen as the best dancing couple in the 2013 “Sedalia Stars” dance competition, which was held Saturday night, March 9, along with a dinner and live auction at State Fair Community College Foundation’s fifth annual fund-raising gala in the Stauffacher Center for the Fine Arts on the Sedalia campus.
Lisa Shoemaker and her partner Paul Beykirch were the couple who raised the most money for the cause, billed as a “A Sapphire Soirée.”
Other dancing couples included Don Luper and Dianne Simon, Max Mitchell and Kim Braverman, and Kathy Beykirch and John Simmons.
Local choreographer Anna Crumley, owner of Studio A Dance Conservatory, provided instruction for all the dancers.
Master of ceremonies was Jim Shoemaker, who also got drafted to dance on stage with his wife Lisa. Auctioneer Janet Proctor solicited bids from the enthusiastic audience. The gala raised money for SFCC student scholarships and programs. Joe Fischer served as honorary chairman.
It was announced at the conclusion of the event that the dancers raised $9,933 for the SFCC Foundation. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
